"So while Father Christmas already has his work cut out for him, he can hopefully find time to deliver some large, new-build homes, with spacious kitchen, in a rural location somewhere with favourable weather like the south coast"

The survey of 1,098 UK homebuyers, commissioned by Yopa, asked which property features were highest on their Christmas wish list.

When it came to size, 71% were looking to upsize, while just 29% said they were in search of a smaller home.

Style-wise, 45% said their property preference would be a new-build home, with Victorian (20%) and Georgian (14%) style homes also proving popular.

A bigger kitchen was the most sought-after interior feature for 28%, with more outdoor space(19%) also ranking high, along with more space to host friends and family and more bedrooms (15%).

In terms of location, 30% of homebuyers would like to live in a rural location, while 19% would settle for more green space in general. Better Infrastructure and less traffic were at the top of the list for a further 12%, with 11% setting their sites on social offerings such as more bars and restaurants.

Finally, 41% of homebuyers would like to move somewhere warmer, while 22% are wishing for a home in an area with a lower crime rate or with less air pollution.

CEO of Yopa, Verona Frankish, commented: “The pandemic may seem a distant memory but it’s clear that homebuyers still value both inside and outside space when it comes to their property purchasing priorities.

"So while Father Christmas already has his work cut out for him, he can hopefully find time to deliver some large, new-build homes, with a spacious kitchen, in a rural location somewhere with favourable weather like the south coast.

"Doesn’t seem like too hard a task, but for those without the magical powers of Santa himself, it may prove more difficult. The good news is that there’s currently plenty of stock on the market so buyers are somewhat spoilt for choice.

"Of course, as with everything in life, they may need to compromise a little and so it's always a good idea to rank just how important each feature of a property is to you before you hit the market.”
