Over the next few weeks, we are delighted to give you the chance to get to know our judges a little better, find out who they are, where they're from and what makes them tick.
Next up, Sean Hooker...
PR: Who are you?
SH: Sean Hooker of The Property Redress Scheme
PR: How long have you been involved with the property industry and what is your current role within it?
SH: I started in insurance many moons back, dealing with mortgage indemnity claims and then moving to sorting out complaints on mortgage payment protection insurance claims. In 2007 I moved to help set up the dispute resolution service for the new deposit protection scheme, mydeposits, from there it was a natural jump to set up the Property Redress Scheme when it became mandatory for all property agents to have a redress facility in place. I am Head of Redress and basically resolve complaints for customers of letting and estate agents.
PR: What will you be looking for in a successful nominee, what separates them from the competition?
SH: A demonstration of treating their customers as the most important part of their business and providing world-class service.
PR: There are many categories in the Property Reporter Awards. Which category are you most looking forward to Judging?
SH: It would have to be between the ones for best letting agent and best estate agent. These guys are at the front line of the industry and when a customer has found a good one they are worth their weight in gold and make a huge difference to their whole experience in the property market. I see my fair share of the bad ones, I am looking forward to seeing what good – no, what exceptional means!
PR: What judge from the world of TV, film or literature are you most like and why?
SH: I am torn between Judge Rinder for his quick wit and straight-talking and Judge Chamberlain Haller from the film “My Cousin Vinny”. The character was played by the actor who was the original Herman Munster which in itself is amusing, however, his deadpan performance and calmness under provocation contrasts with the foul-mouthed, unconventional character portrayed by the manic Joe Pesci. An epic battle between the two ensues but justice was done in the end! These are family awards so on balance I would have to say Judge Rinder as his show is suitable for before the watershed.
